Currently, Dr. Rashid Saif is Associate Professor-Biotechnology at Gulab Devi Educational Complex, Lahore, Pakistan. He was awarded ESKAS postdoc fellowship- in Molecular Genetics & Bioinformatics from Institute of Genetics, University of Bern, Switzerland, where he was engaged in NGS whole genome pooled sequencing data for selective sweep analysis in Capra hircus. He earned his PhD in Molecular Biology & Biotechnology from University of Veterinary & Animal Sciences, Lahore & conducted his doctoral research from “Feline Genetics & Comparative Medicine Lab” at University of Missouri-Columbia, USA. Where he got exposure to genome-wide association studies (GWAS) by analyzing progressive retinal atrophy and mammary tumor through SNP-chip data in Felis catus using PLINK data analysis toolset. After his doctorate, he joined Virtual University of Pakistan as Assistant Professor in 2015. Dr. Rashid’s research interests are detection of genomic selection signatures and trait/disease associated variants in different livestock species. His further interest lies in the development of bioinformatics pipelines for multi-omics data analysis using Linux, R and Python for exploring the full genetic potential of animals and understanding the comparative genomics aspects across species as well.
He has research connections with McGill University-Canada and Washington State University-USA for exploring the new avenues and research projects of mutual interests. He is mentoring many of undergraduate and postgraduate students of diverse disciplines of biotechnology, bioinformatics, zoology, microbiology, genetics and medical laboratory technology. Moreover, he is Founder and Director-Research of “Decode Genomics”, a private research, training and diagnostic center. He has more than 35 publications in peer reviewed journals of international repute and presented his research at different national and international forums including Japan, USA and Switzerland.
