Dr. Abdul Waheed Khan is a National Heart Foundation funded Research Fellow within the Department of Diabetes, Monash University, Australia. He joined the Baker IDI Heart and Diabetes Research Institute in 2009 when he started his Master’s degree in the Vascular Biology and Atherosclerosis Laboratory. He undertook his PhD to understand molecular mechanisms of Postural Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) with Prof. Assam El-Osta and has produced five articles including three first authored original research papers in his PhD project. After his PhD, he was awarded a scholarship to conduct postdoctoral training in the prestigious Karolinska Institute, Sweden, which is one of the world’s foremost medical Universities. At Karolinska Institute, he joined the research team of Prof. Francesco Cosentino, a world leader in cardiovascular research. This work has resulted in the publications of first authored papers published in the European Heart Journal, European Journal of Preventive Cardiology and in the Circulation Research. He was also awarded two highly competitive early career research grants during his postdoctoral training. He is also a member of the executive of the Australian Atherosclerosis Society. He is a guest editor for the Journal of Visualized Experiments. Dr. Khan is also a member of the early career researcher taskforce of the Biochemical Society/Portland press, London. His research interests include the epigenetic mechanisms in cardiovascular disease that promises to be a new exciting area in cardiovascular research.
